Assassination attempt on UOAFROC president

On the evening of 8 January 2015, an assassination attempt was made on the president of one of our partner organisations in Colombia. While he was fortunately not injured, the unknown men hit his driver with two shots to the head. The attack came as no surprise, as a member of the board of Unidad de Organizaciones Afrocaucanas (UOAFROC) had previously been appointed as a military target.

Bogota's mayor against forced recruitment

The armed conflict between rebels and the military in Colombia also affects many young people, who are often drafted into military service against their will. ACOOC, a partner organisation of terre des hommes schweiz which campaigns against conscription and for the right to conscientious objection to military service, now receives important political support from the mayor of the Colombian capital Bogota, Gustavo Petro.

Colombia: Young people shot dead in projects

Just the wrong place at the wrong time: At the beginning of November, two young people from our partner organisation Unidad de Organizaciones Afrocaucanas were killed and another girl was injured. It is likely that they were caught in the crossfire of two warring gangs.
