Among other things, he was instrumental in ensuring that terre des hommes schweiz is primarily aimed at young people. Now a new era is dawning for him, because he has retired.
Almost every day the media bring the refugee situation to the attention of the public. Recently, the refugees have also become highly visible in some European cities. Flight or migration and their consequences are not new. This is why various Terre des hommes organisations have been working for decades to help those affected worldwide.
The headlines are full of reports of people drowning in the Mediterranean. Aid agencies and authorities are working day and night to provide the survivors with the most basic necessities. The 10-point plan proposed by the EU shows no serious will to end these tragedies. It should be clear to everyone by now that it is no use just fighting migration. Other demands are appropriate.

Domestic violence is a barely visible social problem. The current exhibition "Welcome Home" draws attention to this. It was opened on 25.11.2014 with a vernissage. The exhibition can be seen at the Haupt - Ort für Gestaltung in Basel until Friday 5 December 2014.
With the exhibition "Welcome home", terre des hommes schweiz is participating in an awareness raising project of several organisations from Basel on the subject of domestic violence. The exhibition is accompanied by a broad supporting programme.
Last week, "Leben statt Flucht" drew attention to young women who have the courage to lead a self-determined and independent life with a three-dimensional street painting on Bern's Waisenhausplatz. On Friday afternoon, October 25, 2014, everyone was able to become part of the scene depicted and have their picture taken.
This year's conference of the Southern African Debt Relief and Compensation Campaign (KEESA) is entitled: "The Mining Industry in Southern Africa 20 Years of Continuity and Change". The conference attempts to answer the question of the importance of the mining industry in building a society that will bring a better life for all. The important role of Switzerland is not neglected.
On September 27, 2014, the Muhammad Ali Center presented the Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Award for Conviction to a youth from our partner organization ACOOC in Colombia. The Center awards this prize annually to young people for their outstanding social commitment.

Girls and young women are particularly at risk of falling into exploitative circumstances and experiencing gender-specific violence. So it takes courage to leave, but it also takes courage to stay. The new campaign Life instead of flight by terre des hommes schweiz is dedicated to this courage.
