Projects in El Salvador

Projects in El Salvador

Over 10 years of civil war have left deep scars on the country. The consequences are still visible today. For many people, violence and unemployment are part of everyday life, and the gulf between rich and poor is very deep. Because of the traumatic experiences that people suffered during the war, psychological and social intervention is extremely important.

Together strong for women's rights

The situation of girls and young women in El Salvador is not easy: violence is part of everyday life for many of them. They experience it on the street, at work or at home. Our partner organisation Las Mélidas is committed to improving the living conditions of girls and young women throughout the country and fights for their rights.

Young people demand their rights

Chalatenango is one of the poorest regions of El Salvador and was affected by the civil war like hardly any other part of the country. The everyday life of the young people is marked by unemployment, violence and exclusion. Our partner organisation ACISAM (Asociación de Capacitación e Investigación para la Salud Mental) supports the young people by organising leisure camps, festivals and forums. The regional exchange draws attention to the concerns of the young people.

Income initiatives against poverty

Chalatenango is one of the poorest regions of El Salvador and was affected by the civil war like hardly any other part of the country. The everyday life of the young people is marked by unemployment and violence. Many emigrate to the USA because they see no prospects in their home country. Our partner organisation CORDES supports the young people in Chalatenango in finding alternatives to migration.

Youth initiatives are working in El Salvador

Little El Salvador groans under the violence of brutal gangs. Young people in particular are at risk of falling into a vicious circle of drugs, crime and violence. With a fund for self-organised youth groups, terre des hommes schweiz supports young people who, through artistic, cultural or sporting initiatives, are working in their communities and villages to create real prospects for young people.
