imagine Festival 2018 - Is that allowed?

A year has passed so quickly and again the impressive festival of the imaginary young people awaits us this coming weekend. Completely organized by the young people themselves, the program once again leaves nothing to be desired. We are looking forward to enriching this event with the photo box. Will you visit us there?

With pleasure terre des hommes schweiz announces that the imagine festival weekend is just around the corner. This year, an even more colourful programme awaits the visitors on the Barfüsserplatz. Eight bands and many art performances will present themselves from Friday 18:30 to Saturday late into the night at three locations where a varied programme will take place. On the Barfüsserplatz there will be music to get your ears going. The monastery courtyard serves as a relaxed meeting zone and the theatre square has plenty to offer with art installations. (More here) One of the outstanding highlights is the performance of our colleague Hafid Derbal with his band Suma Covjek on Friday evening.

In the sign of foreign cultural characteristics
As an Indian at Carnival? Buddha on the toilet seat? Henna tattoos at the festival? Are you allowed to do that? This year, the imagine Festival deals with the topic of "cultural appropriation". It explores the question of where our cultural circle uses patterns, meals or symbols of other cultures and whether one is allowed to do so at all. Are we allowed to commercialise or instrumentalise traditional elements of foreign cultures for ourselves?

The young people have discovered for themselves that this question cannot be answered with a clear "yes" or "no". Rather, it requires a critical examination and a sensitive and conscious handling of cultures in our everyday life. After all, who wants to do without their Italian pizza?

Photo box and tschutti heftli
In addition to the many young people who have organized and will organize this major event, we also take the opportunity to present ourselves. With our photo box the visitors have the chance to take home their individual souvenir. In addition, we are organising swap meets with like-minded people. They take place on Friday 19 to 20 o'clock, Saturday 13 to 14 o'clock and 16 to 17 o'clock. If you are unable to fill the gaps in your own booklet at the swap meets, we will of course also sell you pictures.
We are looking forward to your visit with us!
