imagine International

With our vision that imagine should not only take place in Basel but also in other parts of the world, we began to look for suitable partner projects. In 2005, CAMM, a centre for street children in Recife, Brazil, hosted the first imagine international.
The first imagine international festival took place in Brazil in 2005
It is an important goal for terre des hommes schweiz to try to make a connection between our information and awareness-raising work in Switzerland and our work in the Global South. Young people from all the countries concerned play a central role. imagine international is organised jointly by the young imagine team in Switzerland and youth groups in the relevant countries.

Cultural exchange
imagine international stands for international cultural exchange between young people. The young people from the imagine teams visited each other in Switzerland, Colombia, Kenya and Brazil and gained an insight into the reality of each others' lives. This encounter enabled them to get to know each other, help each other in their work and develop a shared understanding of North-South relations. That is surely the most important prerequisite for taking action together, globally, in partnership and solidarity.

From Medellin to Nairobi
Now there have also been imagine festivals in Colombia (Medellin) and in Kenya (Nairobi and Embu). The imagine projects abroad focus on the same subjects, such as social exclusion, racism and violence. However, these subjects and the possible solutions are looked at in the context of the people's own history and culture. Like imagine in Switzerland, the imagine festivals abroad are also designed and organised by young people. This gives them experience and teaches them skills that will have a lasting effect on their lives. .
