Western Sahara was occupied by Morocco occupied in 1975.Many Saharawis fled to refugee camps in the barren desert of Algeria to escape the fled. They have been living there for 50 years <\/span>there for<\/span> 174 <\/span>50 years. <\/span>Together <\/span>with our local <\/span>partner organisation <\/span>UJSARIO, <\/span>we <\/span>strengthen <\/span>the cultural identity of <\/span>the <\/span>Saharawis<\/span> and<\/span> create <\/span>prospects for <\/span>young people<\/span>. W<\/span>e use information and lobbying work to ensure that the world does not forget the of the Saharawis\u2019 plight. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

The <\/span>Sahrawi<\/span> refugee camps are located in an area with extreme climatic conditions: The region is characterized by the Sahara, with high temperatures, little rainfall and very limited natural resources. <\/span>A UN referendum on the <\/span>self-determination of the <\/span>Sahrawi<\/span> people<\/span> has <\/span>so far <\/span> from Morocco. The third generation is now growing <\/span> Saharawis<\/span> in the camps<\/span>. <\/span>Despite a high level of education<\/span>,<\/span> especially of the young <\/span>Saharawis<\/span>,<\/span> there are <\/span>hardly any income opportunities<\/span>. The<\/span> Refugees are dependent on international aid. <\/span> <\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

          Our partner organization<\/h3>

          The UJSARIO (La Uni\u00f3n de <\/span>Estudiantes<\/span> de <\/span>Sagu\u00eda<\/span> el-Hamra<\/span> y R\u00edo de Oro) is the only youth organization in the refugee camp <\/span>Smara<\/span>. <\/span>terre<\/span> des <\/span>hommes<\/span> switzerland<\/span> has been supporting the organization since 2008.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

          Project location and phase<\/h3>\nIn nine youth centres in the Algerian desert, near the city of Tindouf.<\/span> The region is known for its extreme climatic conditions.
