They suffer from discrimination and massive violence in their everyday lives. CIP\u00d3, a partner organization of terre des hommes schweiz, campaigns for their rights and better living conditions. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.srf.ch\/play\/tv\/mitenand\/video\/brasilien---chancengleichheit-fuer-afro-brasilianische-bevoelkerung?urn=urn:srf:video:80062537-e0c1-4c1c-bbc2-1249fb3b3021\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SRF mitenand<\/a> visited the project.  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Rita Ferreira fights a daily battle. She is part of the Afro-Brazilian population and lives in Salvador da Bahia in north-eastern Brazil. The 120 or so families who, like her, live in a squatted neighborhood are mostly poor and rarely find work.  <\/p>\n<p>They are also exposed to daily discrimination and violence. &#8220;The main problem for the black population is that we constantly have to fight against injustice. Ultimately, it&#8217;s also about recognition and compensation for 500 years of slavery,&#8221; says Rita Ferreira.<\/p>\n<h2>A life in a microcosm<\/h2>\n<p>Together with our partner organization CIP\u00d3, she is fighting against these abuses. Together with her fellow campaigners, Rita Ferreira demands more rights and protection for the Afro-Brazilian population through demonstrations and political work. <\/p>\n<p>However, CIP\u00d3 also strengthens local aid and encourages the population to support each other. This is particularly important for people who are victims of the serious violence in Salvador da Bahia. Aldecir de Oliveira, who lost her son in a violent confrontation, reports: &#8220;Everyone was there for me. They looked in on me and supported me with everything I needed. That helped me a lot.&#8221;    <\/p>\n<p>With their local commitment, Rita Ferreira and CIP\u00d3 help people on the margins of society, giving them prospects and hope.
