In Zimbabwe, young people often have little say. They suffer from the consequences of HIV/Aids, violence and abuse. Together with our local partner organisations, we support survivors of gender-based violence (GBV), give advice and support to young people affected by HIV and advocate for youth-friendly health services in schools and hospitals.
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a bitter reality for many young people in Zimbabwe, especially young women. Every third person under the age of 18 reports that they have experienced abuse. Weak healthcare and justice systems mean that these acts often go unpunished and the victims receive no support. Together with our partner organisation Childline , we offer a free nationwide hotline to provide telephone support, offer long-term help and carry out prevention work.
In Zimbabwe, almost every family is affected by the Aids pandemic. Although people have access to HIV drugs, the focus of medical care in hospitals is on adults. Young people often go untreated and die, despite there being treatment options available. Together with our partnerorganisation MMPZ, we ensure that young people also have access to life-saving drugs and give them comprehensive advice and support.
Zimbabwe has one of the highest HIV/Aids rates in the world. Poverty and economic instability are widespread . Many young people suffer from high unemployment, violence and a lack of prospects.
