Education creates the future
Mozambique is one of the poorest countries in the world. More than half of the people live on less than two francs a day and many children have little access to education. Together with our local partner organizations, we offer young people training, coaching and start-up support to set up their own small businesses. This enables young people to generate income, escape poverty and create a future worth living.
They pass on their new knowledge and encourage other young people to take their lives into their own hands and take the plunge into self-employment.
Small businesses create income and a future. Thank you for your start-up help!
Let's empower young people - your start-up help counts!
Becoming your own boss through education
Thanks to our programs, 21-year-old Zulmira José from Mozambique has managed to become self-employed. With her small metal construction company, where she makes furniture and barbecues and sells them at the nearby market, she earns around 200 francs a month - ten times the average income. This enables her to support her children, siblings and father.
Thanks to training and start-up support from our partner organization, she was able to follow this path. Today she gives her knowledge and motivates other young people to Self-employment. Her dream: more employees and savings for her children's education.
Hope through craftsmanship
Pedro Setemane, 23, has found his own path with determination. After training as a carpenter, he opened his own carpentry workshop in Chimoio. With the tools and start-up capital he received, he makes beds, tables, windows and doors, which he sells on the market and to order.
With a monthly income of around 500 francs, Pedro employs seven people, all orphans like him. His workshop is not only a workplace, but also a family substitute. Pedro's salary is enough to support his wife, son and two younger siblings; they live together in a newly built stone house.
Pedro dreams of a larger carpentry business with more employees and would like to study civil engineering as soon as he has enough savings.
Journey to a better future
Dorca Davide Matias, 24, has undergone a remarkable transformation. After marrying early and giving birth to two daughters, she experienced domestic violence, like one in five women in Mozambique. To protect herself, Dorca sought refuge with her aunt.
At our partner organization's center, she received psychosocial support and learned in workshops how to protect herself from unwanted pregnancies and gender-based violence. With renewed self-confidence, she passed the practical test to become a truck driver.
Today, Dorca runs her own transport service and delivers building materials, firewood and more. With her income, she provides for her children and has a promising future. Her dream is to train as a teacher.
