Why it’s worth working for us

Meaningful activity

terre des hommes schweiz offers meaningful jobs in an appreciative, international team. Our work in development cooperation focuses on promoting young people as the decision-makers of tomorrow. As an NGO based in Switzerland, we create prospects for young people. In addition to the young people from our projects, our employees play a key role in the success of our work and are the basis for achieving our goals.

Participatory and collegial culture

We have an open and participative organizational culture in a multicultural working environment. Employees are encouraged to play an active role in processes and projects and to initiate innovative ideas. Development processes in our organization are carried out in a participatory manner across hierarchical levels and different areas. We communicate as equals, value respectful interaction and benefit from a constructive feedback culture.

International environment

We work closely with local partners in our project countries. We support small, well-established organizations. We have national coordinators in six countries, some of whom are supported by thematic experts. The coordinators are in close contact with the partner organizations due to their geographical proximity. The people who work for us abroad are exclusively local staff.

Work-life balance

We pursue a socially responsible, family-friendly HR policy with flexible working time models, working from home and measures for mental and physical well-being. Employees organize their working hours independently in consultation with their team so that they have enough space for family and private life according to their needs.

Attractive workplace

At our headquarters in the coworking space in the kHaus in Basel, we benefit from direct exchange and networking with organizations from the worlds of culture and science thanks to the shared, modern workspaces. We also enjoy the friendly atmosphere at work and share activities such as lunch in the culinary and culturally diverse Kleinbasel district, playing ping-pong over lunch or swimming in the Rhine after work.

Parental leave

The parent carrying the child is entitled to 16 weeks’ leave from birth. During the 16 weeks of leave, we pay the corresponding full salary. The parent who is not carrying the child is entitled to 4 weeks’ paid leave.

Transparent and fair remuneration

The wages of terre des hommes schweiz are based on the standard industry rates and take into account our values as a development policy organization that is mainly financed by donations. The wages of the various hierarchy/wage levels are presented transparently.

Further development opportunities

We offer our employees a working environment based on partnership, where each individual is supported and encouraged in their professional role and as an individual. To this end, our employees are given the opportunity to complete further training.
