A year has passed so quickly and the impressive imagine youth festival awaits us again next weekend. Organized entirely by the young people themselves, the program once again leaves nothing to be desired. We are looking forward to enriching this event with the photo box. Will you be visiting us there?
terre des hommes schweiz is delighted to announce that the imagine festival weekend is just around the corner. An even more colorful program awaits visitors to Barfüsserplatz this year. Eight bands and many art performances will be presented from Friday 18:30 to Saturday late into the night at three locations, where a varied program will take place. On Barfüsserplatz there will be music for the ears. The Klosterhof serves as a relaxed meeting zone and the Theaterplatz has plenty for the eyes with art installations. (Find out more here) One of the outstanding highlights is the performance by our colleague Hafid Derbal with his band Suma Covjek on Friday evening.
Under the sign of foreign cultural characteristics
Going to Fasnacht as an Indian? Buddha on the toilet seat? Henna tattoos at the festival? Is that allowed? This year’s imagine Festival is focusing on the topic of “cultural appropriation”. It explores the question of where our culture uses patterns, meals or symbols from other cultures, for example, and whether this is allowed at all. Are we allowed to commercialize or instrumentalize traditional elements of foreign cultures for ourselves?
The young people have realized for themselves that this question cannot be answered with a clear “yes” or “no”. Rather, it requires a critical examination and a sensitive and conscious approach to cultures in our everyday lives. After all, who would want to give up their Italian pizza?
Photo box and tschutti heftli
In addition to the many young people who have organized and will be holding this major event, we are also taking the opportunity to present ourselves. With our photo box, visitors will have the chance to take home a personalized souvenir. We also organize tschutti heftli swap meets with like-minded people. They take place on Friday from 7 to 8 pm, Saturday from 1 to 2 pm and 4 to 5 pm. If you can’t fill your own gaps in the booklet at the swap meets, we will of course also sell pictures.
We look forward to your visit!
