Social justice and sustainable development

In a globalized world, poverty, inequality and environmental degradation are challenges that affect us all. We are particularly committed to helping young people in the Global South who have little access to education, income and health services. Our goal: more self-determination for young people.

Our focal points

Sexual and reproductive health and rights

Millions of young people have little access to sex education, contraception and medical care – especially young women in sub-Saharan Africa. Together with our partner organizations, we empower young people with knowledge, safe places to go and medical support.

Peace and security
worldwide

Global challenges require massive investment in prevention and peace work at various levels. Civil peacebuilding strengthens resilience against future crises. We are committed to a peaceful, secure world by empowering young people, promoting non-violent solutions and driving political change.

Sustainble livelihoods

Worldwide, 71 million young people are unemployed and 156 million live in poverty despite being employed. The ecological crisis and social inequalities are exacerbating these challenges. We give young people access to education and sustainable income and empower them as actors in the ecological transformation for a climate justice future.

climate justice

Climate change is hitting those who have contributed the least the hardest. While the main polluters are barely changing their lifestyles, people in the Global South are already struggling with the devastating consequences. We are committed to mitigating the negative consequences and support young people in campaigning for environmental protection and sustainable solutions for their future.

Corporations and human rights

Multinational corporations around the world are profiting from globalization and increasing their profits. However, they often fail to take responsibility for the impact of their activities beyond national borders. terre des hommes schweiz is actively committed to ensuring that companies worldwide respect human rights and comply with environmental standards.

Western Sahara

Western Sahara has been occupied by Morocco since 1975 – the last unresolved colonial conflict in Africa. The Saharawis live either in harsh conditions in refugee camps or in the occupied territory, where they are exposed to human rights violations on a daily basis. We campaign for their rights, support education and youth projects and raise awareness of this forgotten conflict.
