Executive salary – we are transparent

In January, K-Tipp criticized the lack of transparency in the salaries of the managing directors of Swiss NGOs and the high salary levels. terre des hommes schweiz was not contacted. The public anger caused by the K-Tipp has also reached us. We would therefore like to clarify the situation: The salary of the managing director is no secret to us and is significantly below the industry average.

On January 31, 2018, K-Tipp published an article entitled “Cheflohn? – Let’s not say!”, in which the journalist Gery Schwager criticizes the lack of transparency and the high salary level of the managing directors of Swiss NGOs. Although terre des hommes schweiz is not mentioned in the article and our organization has a rather low management salary, we have since been affected by negative reactions from our donors. It is therefore important to us to ensure transparency.

terre des hommes schweiz at the lower end of the scale
The managing director of terre des hommes schweiz earns CHF 125,690 per year based on a 100% workload. In reality, however, she is only employed 80% of the time and receives around CHF 100,550. Compared to the other organizations listed in the K-Tipp, the salary of the managing director of terre des hommes schweiz is at the lower end of the scale.

Risk of confusion
The K-Tipp report mentions the organization “Terre des hommes – Children’s Aid Worldwide”, among others. This children’s charity based in Lausanne is an independent organization and is legally, organizationally and financially separate from us. The very similar name is based on common roots.
