The "refugee crisis" is our failure

Europe is increasingly closing itself off from the flow of refugees. On their way, migrants are at the mercy of the violence of smugglers and traffickers. Terre des hommes demands the immediate opening of "humanitarian corridors" for their protection.

Walls and closed borders should protect Europe from the refugees". The actual people in need of protection - families, children and young people fleeing war, persecution and unspeakable living conditions - fall by the wayside. On their way they are at the mercy of the violence of the traffickers, who are only after their own profit. That is our failure. We call for the immediate opening of "humanitarian corridors" which will allow refugees access to international protection and asylum until they reach their destination.
