Sharing your own happiness

To improve the future chances for young people in Tanzania - that is what Patrik and Christine von Arx from Binningen want to do. For this they have taken over the complete financing of our project Kividea. Patrik von Arx reports why this commitment is important to his family.

Patrik von Arx, what motivated you to support the Kividea project in Tanzania?
There are countless opportunities in the world to provide humanitarian aid: in the health sector, in cases of lack of food and in crisis areas, during riots and war tragedies. The pictures in the media make us sad and sad and people want to send clothes, food and medical aid immediately. Fortunately, there are many organizations dedicated to this task. But on the other hand, sustainable help is just as important. The population, especially children and young people, should be given the opportunity to influence their future so that it becomes worth living.
Why do you support our organisation in particular?
With projects like Kividea, terre des hommes schweiz provides sustainable help with a view to the future. Local staff are recruited and employed in the projects. Locals thus take responsibility themselves and play an active role in the development of young people. I myself was lucky enough to be adopted by Swiss parents through Terre des Hommes. Today I can say with conviction that this was the greatest happiness on earth for me, even if other concepts are being pursued today, which I also support.
Why is it important for you to help others?
We're very lucky in our lives. Many of us live in abundance. But too many people have to fight for survival - and not only during wars. We do not only want to be affected and sad about it, because we have the possibility to contribute to help. We also support fundraising campaigns in the event of famine or natural disasters. But in the Kividea project of terre des hommes schweiz we can bring about long-term developments and progress with targeted aid.
